A downloadable game

I designed this game around a Magpie entry from week 1, in which I described the dream-within-a-dream I had the night before. With that idea as its core, I created the mechanics of Rift of the Restless Mind from the “hits” of my two TTRPG gameplays (Dream Askew and Wanderhome), which were both spent with and led by an extremely funny and imaginative group. With creative players like them in mind, I set out to create a game that is concise, flexible, and extremely guide-led. Additionally, the characters in the game are based off of loose archetypes I crafted from people I know. I’ll admit; limiting myself to only one page was a challenge, but emphasizing the guide’s personal interpretation made it possible. For example, Vitor decided our Dream Askew setting would be the UBC campus (somewhere relevant and familiar to its players) – this choice led to involved and passionate world-building and player interaction with the setting.
